শুভ সকাল চেরাপুঞ্জি থেকে। সকাল ৭ বাজে। রুমের পর্দা সরিয়ে দেখলাম বাহিরে গুড়ি গুড়ি বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে। সারারাত থেকে থেকে বৃষ্টি হয়েছে। এখন চা/কফি খেতে হবে এককাপ তাহলেই ব্যাপারটা জমে উঠবে। কিন্তু ঘরে কোন পানি নেই। হোটেল থেকে যে একলিটার কপ্লিমেন্টারি পানি দিয়েছিল তা রাতেই শেষ হয়ে গেছে। এখন পানি কিনতে হবে। নিচে নেমে দেখলাম হোটেলের ডাইনিং খোলেনি তখনও, সম্ভবত সকাল ৮ টার পর খুলবে। তাই ছাতা নিয়ে বের হলাম পানি কিনতে। আমরা কোন শীতের কাপড় আনিনি। কিন্তু বেশ ঠান্ডা লাগছে। ঘরে হীটার চালানো সারারাত কাপড় শুকানোর জন্য তাই ঠান্ডা বুঝতে পারিনি। যাইহোক সকালে বৃষ্টির মধ্যে আসে পাশে কোন দোকানও খোলা দেখছি না। ২/৩ মিনিট হাটার পর একটা দোকান পেলাম। সকালের নাস্তা তৈরির জন্য দোকানি প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছে, সেখান থেকে ১ লিটার পানি কিনে এনে চা বানিয়ে খেলাম। সাথে কেক আর বিস্কুট ছিল।

এবার ব্যাগ গুছিয়ে চেক আউট করে হোটেল থেকে বের হওয়ার পালা। হোটেল চেক আউট করব তাই বিলের টাকা পরিশোধ করে দিতে হবে। গত রাতে যে খাবার খেয়েছিলাম তার বিল ছিল ১,৪০০ রুপির মত। আমি ক্রেডিট কার্ড দিয়ে বিল দিতে গেলাম। কিন্তু হল না। এখানে সব ২জি সিম দিয়ে ক্রেডিট কার্ড মেশিনগুলো চলে তাই আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রেডিট কার্ড চলে না। বাধ্য হয়েই নগদ পরিশোধ করতে হল।

তখন প্রায় সকাল ৭.৩০ , হোটেল ছেড়ে দিয়ে বের হলাম। গাড়ি হোটেলের গ্যারেজেই ছিল। ড্রাইভারকে ডাকার সাথে সাথেই চলে আসল হোটেলের গেটে। বৃষ্টি যেন থামছেই না। এর মধ্যেই রওনা দিতে হল। কারণ সব স্পট দেখে আজই আমরা সিলং চলে যাব। সব স্পট বলতে যতগুলো দেখা সম্ভব।

প্রায় ৩০ মিনিট মত পরেই আমরা পৌঁছে গেলাম নোহকালিকাই ফলস। এত সুন্দর আর এত উপর থেকে পানি পড়ছে যে চোখ সরানো যায় না এমন দৃশ্য। কিছুক্ষণ তাকিয়ে থাকলাম প্রকৃতির এই অপরূপ দৃশ্য উপভোগ করার জন্য। তারপর আশেপাশের জায়গাগুলো এবং অন্য দিক দিয়ে দেখার জন্য একটু এগিয়ে গেলাম। একটু পরেই দেখলাম বিশাল আকৃতির একটা মেঘ এগিয়ে আসছে। কিছুক্ষণের মধ্যেই পুরো জায়গাটা মেঘে ভরে গেল আর সেই সাথে বৃষ্টির ধারাও বাড়তে লাগল। রেইনকোটেও যেন কিছু হচ্ছে না। তাই বাধ্য হয়েই সকালের নাস্তা করার জন্য পাশের রেস্টুরেন্টে ঢুকে পড়লাম।

সকালের নাস্তায় আমরা তিনটি থালি নিলাম তিন জনের জন্য একটা লুচি তরকারি, একটা আলু পরটা আর একটা ছোলা বাটোরা। অনেকে দেখলাম সাউথ ইন্ডিয়ান খাবার ইটলী খাচ্ছে। এই বৃষ্টির মধ্যে চা না হলে কি আর চলে। তাই সাথে ২ কাপ চাও নিয়ে নিলাম। খরচ পড়ল ৩০০ রুপির আশেপাশে। সকালের নাস্তা শেষ করতে করতেই আবার মেঘ সরে গেল তবে বৃষ্টি তখনও ছিল তাই রেস্টুরেন্টের বারান্দা থেকেই আর একটু নোকালিকাই ফলস দেখে রওনা দিলাম সেভেন সিস্টার ফলস দেখার জন্য।

প্রায় ৪০ মিনিট পর পৌঁছে গেলাম সেভেন সিস্টার ফলস এর ভিউ পয়েন্টে। কিন্তু কি লাভ হল পুরো অঞ্চলটাই তো মেঘে ঢাকা কিছুই দেখা যায় না। খুবই হতাশ। এই হতাশার মধ্যেও দেখলাম ঠিক সেভেন সিস্টার ফলস এর ভিউ পয়েন্টের বিপরীত দিক দিয়ে একটা খরস্রোতা পাহাড়ি নদী কল কল শব্দে বয়ে চলেছে। সেটা কিছুক্ষন দেখলাম। তারপর আবার ভিউ পয়েন্টে গিয়ে অপেক্ষা করতে থাকলাম এই আশায় যে যদি মেঘ সরে একটু ফলস গুলোর চেহারা দেখা যায়। মনে হল ভাগ্য সাথেই ছিল।

একটু পরেই মেঘ একটু একটু করে সরতে শুরু করল। আর সেভেন সিস্টার ফলস এর একটা একটা করে ফলস গুলো মনে হচ্ছে পর্দার আড়াল থেকে উন্মুক্ত হতে শুরু করল। কিছুক্ষণ পর সবগুলো ফলস পুরোপুরি উন্মুক্ত হয়ে গেল। এত্তোগুলো ফলস একই সাথে দেখতে পারব তা কখনো কল্পনাও করিনি। যাইহোক সেভেন সিস্টার ফলস দেখে আমরা এবার রওনা দিলাম ইকো পার্ক দেখার জন্য।

ঐ যে সেভেন সিস্টার ফলস গুলো দেখলাম এর কয়েকটা ফলস ওই ইকো পার্ক থেকে নিচে পড়ছে। মূলত পাহাড়ের উপর থেকে একটা নদী নিচে পড়লে ফলস তৈরি হয়। সেই নদীই এখান থেকে দেখা যাবে। যাইহোক ৫/৭ মিনিট লাগল ইকো পার্কে পৌঁছাতে। তারপর ভিতরে ঢুকে কিছুদূর হেটে শেষ পয়েন্টে পৌঁছে গেলাম আর দেখলাম পানির কি শক্তি। গম গম শব্দে পানি উপর থেকে নিচের দিকে পড়ছে।ইকোপার্ক দেখে আমরা চলে গেলাম আরোয়া কেভ (গুহা) দেখতে।

প্রায় ২০ মিনিট লাগল আরোয়া গুহাতে পৌঁছাতে। আমি একাই গেলাম গুহাতে ঢুকতে। গুহার মুখটা বেশ অন্ধকার। একটু ভয় ভয় করছে। ১/২ মিনিট পরই দেখলাম একদল লোক আসল তারাও গুহার ভিতর ঢুকবে। আস্তে আস্তে সিড়ি বেয়ে নিচে লামলাম। তবে এই গুহাটা বেশ উচু। যে কোন উচ্চতার মানুষ অনায়াষে এর ভিতর হাটতে পারবে। সেই লোকের দল আমার সাথে ঢুকল ঠিকই কিন্তু অনেক আস্তে আস্তে এগোচ্ছে। তারা মূলত কোলকাতা থেকে এসেছে। একজনের সাথে পরিচয় হল। একটা ছবিও তুললাম। আমি একাই এগোতে শুরু করলাম তাই অনেক আগে চলে গিয়েছিলাম। মাঝে মাঝে লাইট আছে তাই ভিতরটা একেবারে অন্ধকার নয়। তবে নিচেটা একেবারে অন্ধকার তাই মোবাইলের লাইট জ্বালিয়েই চলছি। নিচে ঝিরি শব্দে ছোট ঝিরি বয়ে চলেছে। মাঝে মাঝে গা ছম ছম করে উঠছে। কিছু দূর যাওয়ার পর দেখলাম দুটো পাথর প্রায় লেগে আছে মনে হচ্ছে এর পর রাস্তা নেই। কাছে যেতেই দেখলাম সরু একটা রাস্তা আছে দুটো পাথরের মাঝে। কোনভাবে একজন মানুষ যাওয়া যাবে। পাথরের অপর পাশ থেকে একটু একটু আলো দেখা যাচ্ছে। সেই আলো দেখেই পাথরটা কোন মতে পার হলাম। কিন্তু কোন মানুষ দেখা যাচ্ছে তাই ভয় আরো বেড়ে গেল। আর একটু এগোতেই দেখলাম অন্ধকার বাড়ছে। যখন আর আলো দেখা গেল না তখন মোবাইলের আলোতে দেখলাম আর রাস্তা নেই। সুতরাং বুঝলাম এবার ফিরতে হবে। ফেরার সময় পাথরগুলো খেয়াল করতে করতে আসলাম। পুরো গুহাটায় স্লেট পাথরের। গুহার মুখেই উপরে ওঠার একটা সিড়ি আছে। সেটা দিয়ে উপরে উঠে দেখলাম একটা ভিউ পয়েন্ট। বৃষ্টি আর মেঘ না থাকলে হয়ত অনেক কিছু দেখা যেত সেখান থেকে। কিন্তু বেশি কিছু দেখতে না পেয়ে ফিরে এসে গাড়িতে উঠে গেলাম। এবার ওয়াকাবা ফলস দেখতে যাওয়ার পালা।

প্রায় ১৫/২০ মিনিট পর পৌঁছে গেলাম ওয়াকাবা ফলস এর পার্কিং-এ। এখানে ১০ মিনিট ট্রেকিং করতে হবে। ফলস দেখার জন্য। তাই টিকিট কেটে ঢুকে পড়লাম ভিতরে। প্রায় ৭ মিনিট ট্রেকিং করেই যা দেখলাম তাতে অজান্তেই মুখ দিয়ে বের হয়ে আসল আলহামদুলিল্লাহ। ঝর্নার এত কাছে আসতে পারব কখনো কল্পনাও করতে পারি নাই। এই ফলসটা বেশি বড় না। কিন্তু এত কাছ থেকে পানি পড়ছে দেখেই মন ভাল হয়ে যাবে। কিছুক্ষণ তাকিয়ে থাকলাম সেটার দিকে। 

কিন্তু নিচে আরো বড় একটা ফলস অপেক্ষা করছে সেটা শব্দ শুনে আর বুঝতে বাকি থাকল না। আরো ৪/৫ মিনিট ট্রেকিং করে আর একটা বড় ফলস দেখলাম। আমরা যেখানে দাড়িয়ে তার খুব কাছ থেকে পানি পড়ছে। কিন্তু পানি গুলো পড়ছে অনেক নিচে আর একটা নদীর সৃষ্টি হচ্ছে সেই পানি দিয়ে। এবার উপরে উঠতে হবে। এখানে সিড়ি গুলো সমান না। তাই একটু দেখেশুনে উঠতে হচ্ছে। উঠতে বেশ সময় লেগে গেল।

আমরা আজ আরও একটা স্পট দেখব তারপর দুপুরের খাবার খেয়ে সিলং যাব। আমাদের পরের স্পট ল্যাংকসিয়ার ফলস। এটার নাম আমরা জানতাম না। আমরা যে গাড়ি ভাড়া করেছিলাম সেই গাড়ির ড্রাইভার আমাদের এটা দেখার জন্য বলল । তখন প্রায় দুপুর ২ টা বাজে অনেক ক্ষুধা লেগে গেছে। তাও রাজি হলাম দেখার জন্য। প্রায় ১৫ মিনিট পর আমরা ল্যাংকসিয়ার ফলসে পৌঁছে গেলাম। টিকিট কেটে ভিতরে ঢুকলাম। ঢোকার পর জায়গাটা একটা পার্কের মত। তার চারিদিকে পাহাড় আর মাঝখানটা উপত্যকার মত। আমরা সেখানেই দাড়িয়ে চারিদিক একটু দেখলাম। এত সুন্দর মনমুগ্ধকর সেই জায়গা না দেখলে মনে হবে জীবনে কিছু জিনিস অপূর্ণ থেকে যাবে।

যাইহোক ফলসের কাছে পৌঁছাতে ১০ মিনিটের মত ট্রাকিং করতে হবে। আমরা সিড়ি বেয়ে নিচে নামতে শুরু করলাম। যত নিচে নামছি শব্দ তত প্রখর হচ্ছে। নিচের সিড়ির কাছে এসে দেখলাম পাহাড়ি নদী বয়ে চলেছে। আর একটু নিচে নামতেই আমার চোখ ছানাবড়া হয়ে গেল। এই দৃশ্য না দেখলে চেরাপুঞ্জি আসাই বৃথা হয়ে যেত। আমার সামনে তিন স্তরের একটা ঝর্ণা। অনেক উপর থেকে পড়ছে। ক্যামেরা দিয়ে ছবি তুলতে চায়লাম কিন্তু তা কোন ভাবেই সম্ভব হচ্ছে না। ক্যামেরা ঘোলা হয়ে যাচ্ছে। ঝর্নার এত কাছে আছি আমরা সব পানি কুয়াশার মত করে আমাদের ভিজিয়ে দিচ্ছে সাথে ক্যামেরার ফ্রেম ঘোলা করে দিচ্ছে। আমি নায়াগ্রা দেখি নাই তবে ল্যাংকসিয়ার ফলস দেখে মনে হল নায়াগ্রা ফলসে মানুষ কেন রেইন কোট পরে আর ছাতা নিয়ে যায়। 

এই অপার্থিব সৌন্দর্য কি আর ছেড়ে আসতে মন চাই? তবুও তো ফিরে আসতেই হবে। ফিরে এসে আবার গাড়িতে উঠলাম।

তখন ৩টা পার হয়ে গেছে। দুপুরের খাবার খেতে হবে। প্রায় ৪০ মিনিট পর ড্রাইভার একটা ভালো রেস্টুরেন্ট এর সামনে গিয়ে দাড়াল। রেস্টুরেন্টের নাম ছিল হাইওয়ে স্ন্যাকস ধাবা। আমরা ২ টা ভেজ থালি অর্ডার করলাম। এই রেস্টুরেন্টটা অনেক ব্যয়বহুল ছিল কিন্তু পরিবেশ ছিল চমৎকার। প্রায় ৭০০ রুপি বিল আসল। খাওয়া শেষ করে আমরা সিলং এর উদ্দেশ্য আবার রওনা দিলাম।প্রায় ১ ঘন্টা পর বিকাল ৫ টার দিকে আমরা সিলং পুলিশ বাজার পৌঁছে গেলাম।

Good morning from Cherrapunji. It's 7 AM. I drew back the curtains and saw that it's drizzling outside. It has been raining intermittently all night. Now, a cup of tea or coffee is needed to make the morning perfect. But there's no water in the room. The complimentary one-liter bottle from the hotel was finished last night. Now we have to buy some water. I went downstairs and saw that the hotel's dining area wasn't open yet; it would probably open after 8 AM. So, I went out with an umbrella to buy some water. We didn't bring any warm clothes, but it's quite cold. The heater was on in the room all night to dry our clothes, so we didn't feel the cold before. Anyway, in the morning rain, I didn't see any open shops nearby. After walking for 2-3 minutes, I found a shop. The shopkeeper was preparing breakfast, so I bought a liter of water and made tea. We also had some cake and biscuits with it.

Now it's time to pack our bags and check out of the hotel. Since we're checking out, we need to settle the bill. The bill for the food we had last night was around 1,400 rupees. I tried to pay with my credit card, but it didn't work. Here, all the credit card machines operate with 2G SIMs, so international credit cards don't work. We had to pay in cash.

It was around 7:30 in the morning when we left the hotel. The car was in the hotel's garage, and as soon as we called the driver, he arrived at the hotel gate. The rain didn't seem to stop, but we had to start our journey anyway. We planned to see as many spots as possible today before heading to Shillong.

About 30 minutes later, we arrived at Nohkalikai Falls. The sight was so beautiful, with water cascading from such a great height, that it was impossible to look away. We stood there for a while, taking in the breathtaking view. Then we moved a bit to explore the surrounding areas and see the falls from different angles. Soon, we noticed a huge cloud approaching, and within moments, the entire area was enveloped in fog, with the rain intensifying. Even with our raincoats, we were getting soaked. So, we had no choice but to head into a nearby restaurant for breakfast.

For breakfast, we ordered three different thalis: one with luchi and curry, another with aloo paratha, and the third with chole bhature. We noticed many people enjoying South Indian dishes like idli. And of course, in this rainy weather, tea was a must, so we ordered two cups of tea as well. The total cost was around 300 rupees. Just as we were finishing breakfast, the clouds started to clear, though the rain persisted. From the restaurant's veranda, we took another look at Nohkalikai Falls before heading out to see Seven Sisters Falls.

About 40 minutes later, we arrived at the viewpoint for Seven Sisters Falls. However, the entire area was shrouded in clouds, and we couldn't see anything, which was quite disappointing. Despite the disappointment, we noticed a swiftly flowing mountain river opposite the viewpoint, its waters rushing by with a soothing sound. We watched it for a while. Then we returned to the viewpoint, hoping the clouds would clear so we could catch a glimpse of the falls. It seemed we were lucky after all.

After a little while, the clouds gradually started to clear, and one by one, the falls of Seven Sisters Falls began to reveal themselves, as if emerging from behind a curtain. Soon, all the falls were fully visible. It was an incredible sight to see so many waterfalls at once, something I had never imagined. After enjoying the view of Seven Sisters Falls, we headed off to see Eco Park.

Some of the Seven Sisters Falls we saw flow down from Eco Park. Essentially, a river cascades down from the top of the hill, forming these waterfalls. From here, you can see the river that feeds them. It took us about 5-7 minutes to reach Eco Park. After entering and walking a short distance, we reached the viewpoint and witnessed the immense power of the water, thundering as it fell from above. After visiting Eco Park, we went to see Arwah Cave.

It took about 20 minutes to reach Arwah Cave. I went inside alone, feeling a bit nervous because the entrance was quite dark. A few minutes later, a group of people arrived, also intending to explore the cave. I slowly descended the stairs. The cave is quite spacious, allowing people of any height to walk comfortably inside. The group joined me but moved very slowly. They were from Kolkata, and I got acquainted with one of them and took a photo together. I decided to explore on my own, so I went ahead. There were lights in some places, so it wasn't completely dark, but the ground was pitch black, so I used my phone's flashlight to navigate. There was a gentle stream flowing inside, making a soothing sound. Occasionally, I felt a bit uneasy.

After walking some distance, I saw two rocks almost touching, appearing as if the path ended there. As I got closer, I noticed a narrow passage between the rocks, just wide enough for one person to pass through. I saw a faint light coming from the other side and squeezed through the gap. However, I couldn't see any people, which made me even more nervous. As I moved further, the darkness intensified. When I could no longer see any light, I realized there was no path forward, as the cave seemed to end. I decided to turn back, observing the slate rocks along the way. Near the cave's entrance, there was a staircase leading up. Climbing it, I found a viewpoint. If it weren't for the rain and clouds, the view would have been spectacular. With not much to see, I returned to the car. Next, we headed to visit Wakaba Falls.

After about 15-20 minutes, we arrived at the parking area for Wakaba Falls. From there, we had to do a 10-minute trek to reach the falls. We bought our tickets and started the trek. Within about 7 minutes, I was amazed by how close we could get to the waterfall—so much so that I spontaneously said "Alhamdulillah" in gratitude. Although this waterfall isn't very large, being so close to the cascading water was incredibly refreshing.

After admiring this waterfall for a while, we heard and realized there was a much larger waterfall ahead. Another 4-5 minutes of trekking brought us to this impressive sight. The waterfall was so close that we could feel the mist, and the water was creating a river below. We then had to climb back up, but the stairs were uneven and required careful navigation. It took a bit of time to make our way up.

We planned to visit one more spot before having lunch and heading to Shillong. Our next destination was Langksair Falls. We hadn't heard of it before, but the driver of the rental car suggested we check it out. By then, it was around 2 PM, and we were quite hungry, but we agreed to visit the falls first.

About 15 minutes later, we arrived at Langksair Falls. After purchasing tickets, we entered the area, which resembled a park surrounded by mountains with a valley in the middle. The place was so stunning that it felt like a must-see experience.

To get closer to the falls, we had to trek for about 10 minutes. We started descending the stairs, and the sound of the falls grew louder. When we reached the lower stairs, we saw a mountain river flowing through the area. As we descended further, I was astonished by the view—three tiers of the waterfall cascading from a great height. I tried to take pictures with my camera, but it was challenging because the mist from the falls blurred the lens. Being so close to the falls felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience, making me understand why people wear raincoats and carry umbrellas at places like Niagara Falls. It was hard to leave such a breathtaking sight.

We returned to the car, and by then it was past 3 PM, so it was time for lunch. After about 40 minutes, the driver stopped in front of a good restaurant called Highway Snacks Dhaba. We ordered two vegetarian thalis. The restaurant was quite expensive, but the atmosphere was excellent, and the bill came to around 700 rupees. After lunch, we resumed our journey and arrived at Shillong Police Bazaar around 5 PM.
