আগের আগের পোস্টে বলেছিলাম করোনা চলে গেলে বান্দরবন যাবো। সেটা তো যাবই।

কিন্তু মার্চ মাসে যে ভ্রমনের plan টা করেছিলাম সেটার কি হবে? ভাবতেই কষ্ট লাগে। এয়ার লাইন্স আমার টাকা এখনো ফেরত দেই নি। কিছু দিন পর পর ই তাদেরকে ইমেইল করি। শুধু বলে refund is under processing। 

তাহলে খুলেই বলি কি হয়েছিল আমার সাথে। ২০১৬ থেকেই আমি বছরে ২-৩ বার কোথাও না কোথাও বেড়াতে যাই। তাই আমি ভ্রমণ পিয়াষু মানুষ বলাই চলে যদিও বা সময়ের অভাবে খুব বেশি ঘোরা হয় না। চাকরি সামলে বড় কোনো tour তো করায় যাই না। তাই ছোট ছোট tour ই করি। নভেম্বর ২০১৮ তে দার্জিলিং গিয়েছিলাম।

২০১৯ সালে সিমলা মানালি যাওয়ার ইচ্ছা ছিল কিন্তু cost benefit analysis করে দেখলাম সিমলা মানালি যেতে যে খরচ তাতে Thailand ঘুরে আসা যাবে। আর সিমলা মানালি যেতে সময়ও লাগবে অনেক। তাই Thailand যাওয়ার প্লানই করেছিলাম।

অক্টোবর ২০১৯। Thailand এর ভিসা লাগানোর জন্য এক ট্রাভেল এজেন্সির কাছে গেলাম সব কাগজপত্র নিয়ে। কিন্তু দুর্ভাগ্য কাকে বলে। আমার wife এর পাসপোর্ট এর মেয়াদ ছিল ৫ মাস ২২ দিন। সুতরাং আর ভিসা লাগানো হল না।

যাইহোক, এর পর নতুন পাসপোর্ট করতে দিলাম কিন্তু নতুন পাসপোর্ট করতে ৩ মাস লেগে গেল। তখন ই-পাসপোর্ট এর trail চলছিল এবং বই শেষ হয়ে গিয়েছিল।

জানুয়ারী মাসে পাসপোর্ট পেয়ে ভিসা লাগাতে দিলাম। ভিসা হল। Thailand এর ভিসা লাগাতে আমার  কি কি কাগজ লেগেছে তা আমি আর একটা পোস্টে বলব।

তারপর ঢাকা থেকে ব্যাংকক air ticket কাটলাম থাই লায়ন এয়ারে। আমাদের ফ্লাইট ছিল ১৫ মার্চ রাত ১.১০ মিনিটে।  এবং ব্যাংকক থেকে ফুকেটের টিকিট ও কাটলাম ১৬ মার্চ Thailand time সকাল ৯.২০ মিনিটে।  খুবই লো কস্ট ফ্লাইট এবং সবগুলো টিকিট ছিল nonrefundable।

ঢাকা থেকে ব্যাংকক এর টিকিট কেটেছিলাম gozaayan থেকে ভালো discount দিয়েছিল আর ব্যাংকক থেকে ফুকেট সরাসরি এয়ার লাইন্স এর website থেকেই কেটেছিলাম।

ব্যাংকক ও ফুকেটে হোটেল ও বুকিং দিলাম। ব্যাংকক এর টা বুকিং ডট কম মাধ্যমে আর ফুকেটের টা আগোডা ডট কম এর মাধ্যমে।

এর মধ্যে করোনার থাবা মহামারী রুপ নিল। খুবই ভয়ংকর হয়ে উঠল। 

বিভিন্ন দেশে ভ্রমণের উপর restrictions আসল। দেখতে দেখতে মার্চের প্রথম সপ্তাহ চলে আসল।

হঠাৎ দেখি Airlines থেকে মেইল flight schedule changed. কিন্তু আমার তো হোটেল বুকিং দেওয়া হয়ে গেছে। তবে যেহেতু airlines schedule change করেছে তাই policy অনুযায়ী আমি refund চাইলে ওরা refund দিতে বাধ্য। তাই flight এর সাথে hotel ও cancel করে দিলাম। আর এরই সাথে আর আমার trip ও cancel হয়ে গেল।

এবার রিফান্ড নিয়ে কিছু কথা বলি।

বুকিং ডট কম ও আগোডা ডট কম কে মেইল করলাম refund এর জন্য। বুকিং ডট কম ৩ দিন পর reply দিলো refund করবে পরবর্তী  ৭ দিনের মধ্যে। কোনো ঝামেলা ছাড়া refund করেও দিল।

কিন্তু আগোডা ডট কম আমাকে জানালো যে ওদের হাতে কিছু নেই। প্রপার্টি যদি refund করে তাহলে ওরা refund করবে। আমাকে বলা হল সরাসরি property এর সাথে যোগাযোগ করতে। call করলাম থাইল্যান্ডে সরাসরি প্রপার্টিতে। ওরা বলল agent এর সাথে যোগাযোগ করতে। এই বার আমি মেইল না করে সরাসরি agoda customer care london এ call করলাম। ওরা আবারও same কথা বলল। আমি ভদ্র  ভাষাই যত গালি দেওয়া যাই দিলাম। পরে আমাকে 7-8 দিন পরে মেইল দিল যে refund দেবে পরবর্তী এক মাসের মধ্যে। ওটাও refund পেয়ে গেছি।

এখন শুধু airlines এর টাকা গুলো ফেরত পাওয়া বাকি। তবে সব কিছু সাভাবিক হলে আবার step নেব।

চলুন সবাই মিলে দোয়া করি যেন তাড়াতাড়ি করোনা চলে যাই আর আমরাও একটু ঘুরতে পারি।

I mentioned in an earlier post that I would visit Bandarban once the coronavirus was over. I'll definitely do that.

But what will happen to the trip I planned for March? It’s painful to think about. The airline hasn't refunded my money yet. I email them every few days, and they just keep saying the refund is under processing.

So, let me tell you what happened. Since 2016, I've been going on trips 2-3 times a year. So you could say I'm a travel enthusiast, though I don’t get to travel much due to a lack of time. Managing my job, I can't take long tours, so I go on shorter ones. In November 2018, I went to Darjeeling.

In 2019, I wanted to go to Shimla-Manali, but after doing a cost-benefit analysis, I found that the cost of going to Shimla-Manali could cover a trip to Thailand. Also, it would take a lot of time to go to Shimla-Manali, so I planned to go to Thailand instead.

In October 2019, I went to a travel agency with all the documents to apply for a Thailand visa. But unfortunately, my wife’s passport was valid for only 5 months and 22 days, so we couldn’t apply for the visa.

We then applied for a new passport, but it took 3 months to get it because the e-passport trial was going on and they had run out of passport books.

We received the passport in January and applied for the visa, which was granted. I will share in another post what documents were required for the Thailand visa.

We then booked air tickets from Dhaka to Bangkok on Thai Lion Air. Our flight was scheduled for March 15 at 1:10 AM, and we booked tickets from Bangkok to Phuket for March 16 at 9:20 AM Thailand time. These were very low-cost flights, and all tickets were non-refundable.

I booked the Dhaka to Bangkok tickets from GoZayaan as they offered a good discount, and the Bangkok to Phuket tickets were booked directly from the airline’s website.

We also booked hotels in Bangkok and Phuket through Booking.com and Agoda.com, respectively.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus pandemic became very serious. Travel restrictions were imposed in various countries. The first week of March passed quickly.

Suddenly, I received an email from the airline saying the flight schedule had changed. But I had already booked the hotels. Since the airline changed the schedule, they were obligated to refund me as per their policy. So, I canceled both the flight and the hotel bookings, which also canceled my trip.

Now, let me talk about the refunds.

I emailed Booking.com and Agoda.com for refunds. Booking.com replied after three days, saying they would refund within seven days. They refunded without any hassle.

However, Agoda.com informed me that it was up to the property to refund, not them. I was advised to contact the property directly. I called the property in Thailand, and they told me to contact the agent. I then called Agoda customer care in London. They repeated the same thing. I politely used all the curses I could. Later, they emailed me saying they would refund within a month, and I received the refund.

Now, I am only waiting for the airline to refund my money. Once everything returns to normal, I will take further steps.
